Record weights, made simple.
Our aluminum weights fit a standard LP spindle. Choose the profile and engraved design you like; there is no clamp to tighten or adjustment to make.
Gear Forever offers two aluminum record weight profiles in a variety of designs. This guide explains how they work and walks you through choosing a size and checking that it suits your turntable.
Record weight FAQ
What is a turntable record weight?
A record weight, also called a record puck or stabilizer, rests over the spindle at the center of an LP. Its own weight adds gentle pressure near the label. Gear Forever weights are easy to put on and lift off when changing records.
What does a record weight do?
It helps the record sit securely against the platter or mat. Some listeners like the added contact at the center, while others simply enjoy how an engraved weight completes their turntable setup.
How is a record weight different from a clamp?
A weight simply rests on the record and lifts off when you are done. A clamp grips the spindle or uses another fastening method. With a Gear Forever weight, there is nothing to fasten or adjust.
Can I use one on a belt-drive turntable?
Yes. Belt drive by itself is no obstacle to using a record weight. Gear Forever weights are approximately 11 oz, and you use them the same way as on a direct-drive turntable: place the weight over the spindle on top of the record.
Will a Gear Forever weight fit my turntable?
Gear Forever weights have a 7.5 mm opening designed to slip over a standard LP spindle. No special spindle or adapter is needed. The two profiles are 1 inch and 1.35 inches tall; choose the shorter one if you prefer a lower profile beneath a dust cover.
Can a record weight help with a slightly warped record?
It can help some mildly dished records sit more firmly near the center. An edge warp may respond differently, and a weight does not permanently flatten a record.
Will I hear a difference?
That depends on the record and setup. A weight adds contact at the center, but an audible change is not guaranteed. Many owners also choose one for its easy handling and the look of an engraved design spinning with the record.
Which size should I choose?
Both versions are close in weight. The 1-inch profile is approximately 11 oz and includes a separate bubble level. The 1.35-inch profile is approximately 11.3 oz and has no level. Pick the height and design you prefer.
